RECOMPENCE STANBURY, I: Son of Josiah Stanborough, b. 1646 and Admah Chatfield.
Recompence was b. Aug. 22, 1672. Is said to have been one of the first settlers at Scotch Plains about 1689. His wife was named Sarah Woods. Mention is made of a Recompence Stanborough as master of a ship in MD records, dating 1694 to 1698. Possibly the same. Nothing further known.

JOSIAH unknown birth date (Recompence's will mentions a brother named Josiah)
NATHAN b. about 1713 d. about Mar 29, 1762 Middlesex Co. In his will he names brother Recompence, his wife Prudence, sons: Josiah; Robert and wife ? Freeman; David with wife Phebe and
their dau. Phebe. Sons of Nathan: Recompence, Joshua, Annijah and Nathan. Dau.' Pheby and Polly.
JOHN ( this is a possibility no proof found). John is in Scotch Plains with Recompence in 1747 and there is a John who is active in political affairs and even survives a shipwreck off Cape May
in 1766.
