Tree: Worth

Tree Name  Worth
Description  The Descendants of William Worth February 25, 1641/42 Plymouth, Devonshire, England William Worth came to Nantucket in 1662. He was the son of John Worth, and with others of his family left England during the troubles consequent upon the Revolution, which resulted in the establishment of the Commonwealth. His father was a Royalist and his life was sacrificed in defending Plymouth Fort. His oldest brother John was killed at the same time. Seth Worth (October 09, 1738 - May 28, 1781) Resided in Long Island, New York. "He had sold property for $4,000.--had seen two or three strange men looking round. Sent his wife off with the money--told his neighbours if they heard his gun fired off he wished they would come to his assistance for he feared trouble. He fired his gun; killed one man. First thing they did was to demand his money. He told them if he gave his money up they would kill him. The very neighbours he had asked to come to his assistance were the ones that came to rob. He took is whaing spade and fought till he could fight no longer and fell bleeding. They supposed him dead, but he bled too much before assistance came. His wife was a feeble woman and they both died near one time--left three or four children." From letter of Annie Bassett (daughter of Mary Worth) to Ruth R. Stephens, her neice.
