    • Thomas Talmage, a Captain, was born in England and came to America with his father as a boy. He was awarded a 20 acre lot in Lynn, MA in 1638. He moved to Southampton and was granted land there in 1642. He left in 1649 and was a founder of East Hampton where he lived the rest of his life.

Thomas was elected the first recorder and kept that job until his death in 1691. Thomas was chosen as the leader of the local military regiment and was confirmed as a lieutenant on Feb. 5, 1660. He was later promoted to Captain. Thomas was also referred to as Constable in a 1682 petition to the Governor. Judge Hedges writes that the records show that at his death in 1691 Captain Thomas Talmage was the richest man in East Hampton. The Will of Thomas Talmage is included in the book.

Some of the data about the Talmages is from the TTT book and some from "Early Records of the Talmage Family in England and It's Settlements in America, 1933, by Robert Swartwout Talmage.
