ORANGE T. FANNING DIES SUDDENLY IN SAGAPONACK
      Was Visiting Nephew when He
Died Suddenly at 9:45 this morning.
      BODY COMING HERE
      Was Former County Clerk and
      President of First National Bank
      Of Port Jefferson
Orange T. Fanning of Port Jefferson, died at 9:45 o'clock this morning (Thursday) at the home of his nephew, Clifford J. Foster, at Sagaponack, L. I.
Mr. Fanning has been spending the past two weeks with his nephew and on Monday had dinner at the home of a niece, Mrs. Addison Topping, Sagaponack. He had a slight attack at that time, but apparently recovered and was feeling fine. This morning his nephew went to his room to call for him to take him for a ride to Bridgehampton and found that he was not there. He found him on a couch in an adjoining room suffering from what is assumed to be a heart attack. His nephew immediately called a doctor but Mr. Fanning died before the doctor arrived.
Mr. Fanning was born in Quogue on October 9th, 1844. In his early life he came to Port Jefferson, where he entered the coal and lumber business. He was well known throughout the county in Republican circles, having served as County Clerk for two terms. He was also president of the First National Bank of Port Jefferson and was active in his earlier life in many fraternal orders.
When his wife died about four years ago he suffered a nervous breakdown and has been more of less invalided since then.
Funeral arrangements have not as yet been made, but it is believed that the body will be brought to Port Jefferson tomorrow (Friday) and that the funeral will be held eighter Saturday or Sunday.
He is survived by one son, Thomas R. Fanning, of Arcadia Avenue, Bridgeport, Conn.; one sister, Mrs. Aumack of Sagaponack, L. I.; two nieces, Mrs. Addison Topping and Mrs. Alfred Rogers of Sagaponack, and two nephews, Clifford J. Foster of Sagaponack, and Allen Rerry of Bridgeport, Conn., and one grandchild, a daughter of Thomas R. Fanning.
