      On September 4, 1941, Louis Tooker Vail wrote the Sag Harbor Express that there was a "wealth of Revolutionary War data that clusters about Sag Harbor [known to] very few people in Sag Harbor," and he named 19 Revolutionary War Patriots buried in the Old Burying Ground noting that "there may be more." Vail added "the wives of these Patriots... fought just as hard for the American Cause in their way, and are as fully deserving of recognition as their husbands." Vail gave the names of these "brave" and "patriotic" women beside those of their husbands.

      Hand, Captain David (1756-1840) and 1. Susannah Hand (1764-179?) 2. Mary Hand (1755-1794) 3. Hannah Hand (1758-1798) 4. Charlotte Hand (1770-1800) 5. Hannah Hand (1766-1835). Hand served in Colonel Josiah Smith's regiment of Minute Men and under Colonel Goose Van Schaick and Colonel Alexander McDougall in New York's 1st Regiment of the Line. Buried in OC.
